The Experience
You meet your guide at Butcher Jones Recreation Site on Saguaro Lake, where the kayak, paddle, and PFD are fitted and a safety orientation covers paddling basics. From the launch, you paddle calm flatwater toward sheltered inlets and shoreline cliffs beneath the Superstition Mountains and Four Peaks. The guide shares the lake's ecology and points out bald eagles, bighorn sheep, and other wildlife along the way. A snack and water break on the water precedes the paddle back to the launch site.

Where does the Saguaro Lake tour meet? ▼
The tour meets at Butcher Jones Recreation Site at Saguaro Lake on North Bush Highway, with the exact meeting spot confirmed in your booking. A National Forest parking pass is included. Your guide calls ahead with timing and what to bring.
Do I need kayaking experience? ▼
No. The lake is calm flatwater, and the guide covers paddling basics and safety before launch. The tour is for ages 8 and up, and every guest must weigh at least 35 lbs to fit the PFD. Minors must be accompanied by an adult, and you should be comfortable paddling for about two hours with breaks.
What about heat and weather? ▼
Tours run year-round. October through April offers 8 AM or 1 PM departures; May through September moves to 7 AM to beat the heat. Guides monitor weather and may adjust or cancel for lightning, high wind, or unsafe conditions. The lake is exposed, so bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
What should I wear and bring? ▼
Secure water shoes or sport sandals with a heel strap are required; no flip-flops or bare feet. Wear comfortable athletic clothing and bring a change of clothes for the ride home. Pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a waterproof phone case, and any medications.

More than 72 hours out, you receive a full refund minus card processing fees; inside 72 hours or a no-show, the booking is charged in full.
