The Experience
This is the Grand Canyon beyond the overlooks—a demanding, full-day hike for experienced trekkers ready to descend below the rim and climb back out. Your private adventure begins with pickup from your hotel in Flagstaff, Williams, Tusayan, or Grand Canyon Village. At the South Rim, your guide will select a trail based on the route and conditions, review safety procedures, and check your gear before you set out. Expect steep switchbacks, rugged terrain, and substantial elevation change as you make your way into the canyon. Along the trail, your guide will share insights into the Grand Canyon’s geology, ecology, and natural and cultural history while helping your group navigate the challenges of the hike.
Plan on at least eight hours for the full experience, including transportation, with the actual duration depending on the route, your group’s fitness, and your pace. Hikes cover more than six miles one way and may involve more than 3,000 feet of elevation change one way. Your tour includes a professional guide with medical training, round-trip transportation, a picnic lunch, bottled spring water, beverages, trail snacks, a backpack, and trekking poles; ice cleats are provided in winter conditions. This is an advanced-only hike for guests 16 and older who are in excellent physical condition and have prior experience with strenuous hiking. Sturdy hiking footwear and sun protection are essential, and summer hikes depart at dawn to avoid midday heat. Come prepared for a serious physical challenge and the unique demands of hiking deep into the Grand Canyon.

Where do you pick up? ▼
Roundtrip hotel pickup is included in Flagstaff, Williams, Tusayan, or Grand Canyon Village, with exact timing confirmed when you book. Phoenix and Scottsdale pickups are arranged as custom charters, so contact us before booking if you are coming from the Valley.
How fit do I need to be? ▼
This is a very strenuous inner-canyon hike with 2,000 to 4,000+ feet of elevation change and hikes that can exceed 6 miles one way. Prior strenuous hiking experience is required, and the hardest work comes at the end on the climb back to the rim. The tour is for ages 16 and up and is not recommended for guests with heart conditions, knee problems, or a fear of heights.
What are the canyon conditions? ▼
Inner-canyon temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees from May through September, which is why summer departures start at 5:30 AM; October through April starts at 7 AM. The rim sits near 7,000 feet, so expect cooler air at the top and rapid temperature swings below. Tours run rain or shine, and 360 Adventures cancels only for severe or hazardous conditions.
What should I wear and bring? ▼
Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots or trail shoes with good tread are required; no dress shoes or smooth soles. Wear moisture-wicking layers, not cotton, with a warm layer, rain shell, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Bring 1 to 2 liters of water per person in addition to the water and snacks supplied, plus a camera and personal medications.
What is this tour's cancellation and rescheduling policy? ▼
This tour uses a 5-day window. Send cancellations or changes in writing through our contact form; replies to your confirmation email cannot be processed. More than 5 days out, you receive a full refund minus card processing fees; inside 5 days or a no-show, the booking is charged in full. If 360 Adventures cancels for severe conditions, you receive a 100% refund including fees.
