Desert Rock Escape: Half-Day Climbing Near Phoenix & Scottsdale

The Experience

Trade the climbing gym for real desert rock on a private half-day climbing adventure near Phoenix and Scottsdale. Before your trip, you’ll consult with your guide, who will select a climbing location based on the season, available shade, and your group’s experience and goals. After a one- to two-mile round-trip hike over rocky desert terrain, you’ll reach the crag, where your guide will fit your harness, helmet, and climbing shoes before reviewing safety procedures. Then it’s time to get on the rock, with top-rope routes selected to match your ability, whether you’re new to outdoor climbing or have years of experience.

Throughout the session, your guide will provide hands-on coaching in footwork, hand placement, knots, and climbing commands while managing the anchors, belay, and safety systems. You’ll have the opportunity to work through different climbs at your own pace before packing up the gear and hiking back to the trailhead. Your tour includes an AMGA- or PCGI-certified guide, harness, helmet, climbing shoes, ropes, belay hardware, filtered water refills, and energy snacks. Bring at least 32 ounces of water, sturdy closed-toe shoes with good traction for the approach, sun protection, and a packed lunch or personal snacks. No previous outdoor climbing experience is required, and climbers ages eight and up are welcome; guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
